Assemblage Sculpture

The species Homo Sapiens is more than capable of creating the most intractable situations. Whereupon the question arrises, is this a dead end or is it a starting point for illumination on the human condition?

One ongoing theme in this work is how to understand the child’s play of cowboys and Indians or in the grownup world, the depiction and treatment of indigenous North Americans within the evolution of the economic juggernaut and world power the United States of America. Who is the bad guy and who is the good guy and why do we make those distinctions?

Recalling formative memories often presents a wide variety of emotions from painful to delightful, all of which are building blocks of present-day attitudes and perceptions.

This exploration may include glorification or celebration on either side of a conflict situation. Who is telling the story and from what point of view? Please bear in mind that humor and playfulness are meaningful ingredients in any serious inquiry. Amplifying and enjoying differences can be visually and intellectually rewarding.

Reflecting on situations that have no solution – dilemmas – enriches a personal understanding of self and humanity. And please, always practice the adage to “walk a mile in the other person’s shoes” when attempting to know and understand your fellow members of our species.
